Jerry Wenzel, Founder and Senior Controls Engineer

JerryJerry is a graduate of Milwaukee School of Engineering and an electrical engineer. During his career, Jerry has served as lead controls engineer on numerous large process systems utilizing distributed control systems. He is an expert in distributed control systems, process design, configuration and start up. He founded Trident Automation in 2002. Jerry continues to utilize his technical skills in developing and guiding Trident’s continually expanding base of engineers.

Jason D. Hurst, Principal and Senior Controls Engineer

JasonAfter graduating from the University of Wisconsin as a mechanical engineer, Jason began his career with Moore Products company as a sales representative for industrial controls systems. He transferred to Moore’s customer service division working as a service engineer integrating Moore’s DCS products. In 2002, Jason, joined Jerry as the second partner in Trident Automation. He continues to use his technical skills as an integrator for Trident’s customers.

Don Jolly, Principal and Senior Controls Engineer

DonDon is a graduate of Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College and a controls and instrumentation engineer. Don brings a wealth of experience as he has held positions as a process controls engineer, instrumentation and controls engineer, and field service engineer. In 2002, Don joined Jerry and Jason as the third partner in Trident Automation. He continues to use his technical skills for Trident’s customers.

Our Customers

Great Lakes Fleet- M/V Edger B. Speer, M/V Edwin H. Gott, M/V Presque Isle

Provided control of Ballast from pilothouse using APACS DCS. On the Presque Isle, wireless industrial handhelds were added for control from the anywhere on the weather deck.

O’Hare Airport Main Heating & Cooling plant.

Configuration of APACS Combustion Controls and QUADLOG Burner Management Systems for eight gas & oil fired boilers.

Vulcan Chemical Port Edwards.

Provided complete engineering, configuration, and start-up for APACS on a hazardous waste incinerator and 300,000 Amp electrochemical chlorine plant. APACS in the chlorine plant provides control and interlocking on 5 rectifiers providing 65,000 amps each to a cell room. Providing ongoing engineering, and upgrade assistance for continued retrofits.

Stora Enso Kimberly Power Plant. (Formerly Inter Lake Papers)

Design, configuration, start-up and tuning assistance of a complete retrofit of 5 boilers(Gas, oil & coal fired), 2 steam turbines, 1 hydroelectric turbine, precipitators, power monitoring and auxiliaries from pneumatic & electromechanical controls to a large APACS DCS and QUADLOG burner management system.

International Paper Kaukauna.

Providing continuing design, configuration, installation and start-up support for APACS & QuadLog in recovery, pulping, & environmental areas. Worked to develop and implement several modifications to increase the efficiency of HMI configurations. Design and start-up of the APACS DCS network.

Georgia Pacific, Wisconsin Rapids. (Now Domtar)

Complete design, reverse engineering, configuration, replacement checkout & start-up of #8 Paper Machine DCS from early generation PROVOX to APACS. The shutdown and retrofit was compressed into 2.5 days of downtime & was smoothly making on-grade paper within 1/2 hour of putting stock on the wire.

Georgia Pacific Green Bay (Formerly Fort Howard)

Provided configuration and start-up assistance for APACS DCS on #10 gas & sludge fueled boiler.Provided support and design assistance for the retrofit of APACS to #5 & 6# Paper machines. Engineered Measurex Gauge interface & Allen Bradley PLC interface to APACS & its WonderWare HMI.

Marquette Board of Light & Power.

On project team which is currently finalizing configuration for a 50 Megawatt pulverized coal fired boiler DCS & BMS conversion for an April 2001 start-up. Provided control system design, configuration review and foreign device interfaces. Will be providing primary shutdown, start-up & tuning support.

Configuration and start-up for burner management on a gas fired drying system for a 4000 foot per minute paper machine.

Engineering and start-up for burner management on 7 gas fired drying systems. Complete project was conceived and installed after a fire destroyed the existing BMS and part of the paper machine.

United Ethanol, LLC

Successfully integrated a new Eisenmann RTO into a Siemens PCS7 DCS using Profibus DP remote I/O. Provided DCS configuration, remote I/O panel and fieldbus design, Plant regulatory data trending, and start-up assistance. Start-up went smoothly and after a few days of warm up, the RTO was placed online. Nov 2008

Marquis Energy, LLC

Integrated a Corn Oil Extraction system to remove oil for BioDiesel production using a Siemens APACS+ DCS with InSight HMI. Provided DCS programming, field device training/configuration, start-up assistance, and DCS logic documentation. Oct 2008

Iroquois Bio-Energy Company, LLC

Integrated a Corn Oil Extraction system to remove oil for BioDiesel production using a Siemens APACS+ DCS version R5. Provided DCS configuration and start-up assistance. Mar 2009

Sigma Aldrich Chemical

Migrated their windows 3.1, APACS MycroAdvantage DCS to Siemens PCS7/APACS OS. Upgraded the original ACMs with ACMx’s and Industrial Ethernet Modules to provide the capability to easily expand the DCS in the future. April 2009
